Camp Site Supervisor

The Site Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the daily operation of the summer camp program he or she has been put in charge of.

Qualifications:

At least 21 years of age with a High School diploma or equivalent. College degree or teaching certificate preferred. Must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid and have three-years or more prior camp experience. Skills in supervision, organization, lesson planning, record keeping, and communication are necessary.

Immediate Supervisor:

The Site Supervisor is responsible to the Camp Coordinator and the Recreation Supervisor in charge of camps.

Essential Functions:
  1. Plan, organize, develop, and implement daily camp activities with the staff.
  2. Assist in staff training, i.e., staff or orientation, activity/games workshop.
  3. Supervise counselors, JR. Leaders, and campers daily and keep activities flowing smoothly at site.
  4. Organize and lead staff meetings.
  5. Keep records and submit camp reports and evaluations to the Camp Coordinator.
  6. Build and maintain staff morale.
  7. Handle discipline problems.
  8. Maintain communication with Camp Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor and parents with camper concerns.
  9. Evaluate camp program and camp staff mid-season and end of season.
  10. Responsible for equipment inventory.
  11. Assist in all camp-related activities including swimming.
  12. Monitor staff performance and aid in education of discipline situations.
  13. Determine/implement season-long activity plans to be used at camp.
  14. Monitor/inspect campsite to ensure camper safety, program implementation and staff efficiency.
  15. At the end of the camp season, make sure camp location is clean and all supplies are taken back to the Harrer Shelter.
Psychological Considerations:
  1. The Head Camp Counselor may need to resolve differences and problems that arise with
  2. Campers, JR Leaders, and Counselors.
  3. May also have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR is required.
  4. Must have the ability to lift 40 pounds.
Environmental Considerations:
  1. Most activities are performed outdoors. These environmental conditions include weather.
  2. conditions such as extreme heat, humidity, and sun exposure.
  3. May be required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds when setting up for certain programs or
  4. PPE is required during specific projects or tasks that requires appropriate safety
  5. measures such as hearing or eye protection, use of respirators and other protective items as needed.
Cognitive Considerations:
  1. Must possess good safety awareness and judgment.
  2. Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages.
  3. Employee must be able to listen, hear and speak.
  4. Use of hands and fingers will regularly be required, and the ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.
  5. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
Safety Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze the environment for safety hazards and eliminate them before accidents happen.
  2. Notify Camp Coordinator immediately of any hazards that need to be fixed and when the first
  3. aid supplies are needed.
  4. Use camp equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  5. Complete Accident Reports when needed and give to the Camp Coordinator. Make sure a Band
  6. Aid Report is filled out whenever a band aid is given out.
  7. Administer first aid to one's capabilities.
  8. Watch for unauthorized persons loitering or taking pictures around camp sites/parks.
  9. Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the district's safety program.
  10. Follow "Communicable Disease Guidelines" when preparing food. (See Communicable
  11. Disease Guideline Policy.
